Amethyst Shimmer

Jewel Toned Pink and Purple MakeUp Look 1

Although I'm a lover of the sultry, subtle neutral eye makeup, I've always been a fan of colour. So when Savvyist.com set the challenge to create a Jewel Toned eye makeup look for their bi-weekly challenge it gave me the perfect opportunity to rediscover some of my favourite bold bright colours. In particular the Urban Decay Electric Palette which has some the brightest, most pigmented colours, you will ever come across, lol. The eyeshadow look is somewhat inspired by Rae Morris Jewelled Eye look from Makeup The Ultimate Guide which is my favourite book on makeup. I know this look is not very wearable or for the faint hearted but I love it regardless! I once decided to pair this look with a bold lip because I honestly felt the pink/purple lip complimented the eyes the best even though I love a good nude lip. But let me know in the comment section what do you think of this bold jewel toned look?

EYES
Begin with skintone transition colour above the crease with a fluffy blending brush, I used MAC Samoa Silk as it has a slight peach tone to it. Apply a hot pink eyeshadow or blush in the crease with a blending brush gradually building intensity, for this I used Coastal Scent Pot in Hot Pink. Create depth by applying a dark purple like MAC Fig 1 in the outer corner of the crease and mobile lid. On the lid using a shader brush apply a shimmery amethyst purple colour such as Urban Decay Pressed Pigment in Urban from the Electric Palette. Highlight the inner corner of the eye with Urban Decay Jilted Pigment from the same palette or any other fuschia pink shade with a small shader brush. Apply eyeliner in a winged style and carefully deepen the outer corner further with black eyeshadow (MAC Carbon) with a small blending brush. For the lower lash line apply a shimmery pencil such as MUA Jade Jewel and top off with Urban Decay Fringe Pigment. Apply mascara and/or falsies - I used Remy+ Natural Lashes in 120.

BASE
For my base I used my favourite concealer which is NARS Radiant Creamy in Med/Dark 2 around my eyes, lips and on blemishes and blended with a buffing brush. I set the concealer using a tapered powder brush with Sleek Luminous Pressed Powder in 02 then applied Revlon Nearly Naked in Deep around the perimeter of my face for a very natural contour effect. I added a little bronzer around my temples and cheekbones using the darkest colour from the Sleek Bronze Block in Dark with a contour brush.

CHEEKS
As the eyes and lips were pretty bold, I used a quite subtle blush to compliment both. So I used MAC Sunbasque Blush as it has the perfect golden peach sheer glow which add dimension to face without being too much.

LIPS
Lightly line the lips with a dark purple lip liner, such as Barry M lip liner in 11. Then apply a mixture of Maybelline Lipsticks in Violet Intrigue and Hot Plum.
